REVIEW: 311, Badflower, Sitting on Saturn at The Rooftop at Pier 17 | 06.29.2025

Rock icons 311 are in the midst of their massive summer “Unity Tour” with Badflower and Sitting on Saturn. The band is celebrating both present and past, with their recently released album, Bloom, as well as the 30th anniversary of their legendary self-titled third album, reissued earlier this year. The tour made its stop at The Rooftop at Pier 17 this past Sunday for a packed performance in the heart of lower Manhattan.

Sitting on Saturn delivered a sun-soaked performance to kick off the evening. The young trio’s energetic sound channeled the likes of Green Day and Sublime with upbeat anthems that set the tone and built excitement for the night ahead.

Badflower opened with “No Place Like Home,” luring the crowd in with its dark, mysterious sound before erupting into distorted energy. The song is the title track from the band’s new album — a vinyl copy of which was proudly held high between songs by a young fan.

Vocalist Josh Katz noticed the fan’s excitement and created an unforgettable moment by taking the vinyl and signing the slipcover mid-set, along with the rest of the band. Badflower’s setlist leaned heavily on the new album but still made room for earlier fan favorites like “Ghost” and “Detroit.”

311 kicked off their set with the mega-hit “Beautiful Disaster,” playing with an energy and excitement that made the crowd feel like they’d collectively stepped into a time machine back to the band’s ’90s heyday. It was mind-blowing to be reminded just how many iconic songs the band has created over the years — and equally so to witness them perform each one with such impressive perfection.

311 showcased tracks from their newest album, Bloom, blending them seamlessly with their musical history. The fans’ enthusiastic singalongs promised that the new songs are future classics. The vibe was palpably positive from start to finish.

It’s no question why the band has such a dedicated following — seeing 311 live is an experience that, despite the title of their closing song, leaves you feeling anything but “Down.”
